With one bedroom, an office/den, and a full bathroom, the house is ideal for an individual or couple seeking privacy; we challenge you to find a place more “quaint and comfortable!”

More details about the home, which is presently for sale, may be directed to its owner, Karen, at (914) 772-5915, or you may email us at admin@finduniquehomes.com and we will be happy to forward along your inquiry.

An interesting question

In discussing this new site with some friends, I received the question, “Why are you only focusing on Bergen County, NJ and Rockland County, NY?”  I gave my friend three answers, and so I’ll share those three with you as well.

(1)  I live in Rockland County, and my fascination with unique homes started here in Rockland and has shifted over time to also include Bergen County.  I particularly like the architecture of many older Bergen homes, just as I like the “creative” use of land and landscaping of many of Rockland’s newer communities.  Since these are the two areas I know best, it seemed only natural to focus on them.

(2)  Although the categories are intended to transcend the sterotypical house-searching categories from other sites (and I hope you’ll let me know what you think of them), there will continue to be, in the end, a particular geographic focus that people must use when they search for a home, and so for lack of a better geographic scope, Rockland and Bergen will do the trick.  I’m certainly open to the idea of expanding the geographic scope over time.

(3)  I’m not a realtor.  In fact, I’m not in the land or real estate business at all.  This is merely an interest of mine.  Since I’m not sure I’ll ever stand to profit much from a site like this (unless I start placing obnoxious banner ads… which I won’t), then it will be primarily a program that helps bring attention to homes that I feel should be paid attention to!  Some will be for sale, and others may just be interesting.  Don’t worry, I won’t be publishing photos of your home without your permission.  So, what’s the whole point of response #3?  Well, basically, when it comes to concentrating on the towns (NY), townships (NJ), villages, and hamlets in Bergen and Rockland, the #3 response (which is actually my #1 Reason) is because I felt like it.

So there you have it… a blog-site dedicated to unique homes, and for the moment, dedicated to unique homes in Rockland County and Bergen County.  Do I want your feedback?  Of course!  Will I always follow it?  Of course not!  But I think you get the point, and I DO hope you enjoy my efforts.

A simple concept

04/12/2009

The inspiration for this site arose out of a desire to create a single reference source for information, details, and photos specifically for unique homes, and specifically for homes in the Northeast.

One afternoon, I spent several hours online searching for a certain kind of home; a home with unique qualities I could not quite describe, yet which I knew I would recognize.  At the end of my session, I turned away in disappointment.  I knew what I was looking for existed somewhere, but I could not narrow down my selection because there was simply no way to filter out the types of homes that I knew I would have no interest in.

You see, the home I sought out was not necessarily of a particular architecture, nor of a particular size, nor even within a particular price range.  I knew the geographical area I desired, and yet that was the only criteria that availed itself to me.  Every other search criteria fell short.  What also fell short were the pictures and descriptions, as at no time was I able to develop a strong ‘feel’ for what each home might have offered.

And so, with nothing but an idea for what should be available, I embarked on a mission to make it take shape.  If you’re reading this passage in 2009, there’s a good chance this site is still in development.  That’s OK, as I would truly appreciate your feedback.  After all, I’m certainly not the only one looking for something different, and I would be more than willing to incorporate the well intended thoughts of others.  Over the next several months, a simple yet robust site shall arise; one that puts the focus where it belongs… on the unique qualities that make the finest homes of all shapes and sizes so incredibly worthwhile.
